3 Days Chimpanzee Trekking Safari – Kibale National Park

Chimpanzee trekking is a popular activity in Uganda’s Kibale Forest National Park. The park is home to a large population of Chimpanzees, and tourists can often see them swinging through the trees or playing in the forest. The park covers 795 km2 of rainforest, swamps, rivers and a few grassland areas. Trekking through the forest is a great way to see these incredible animals up close. Chimpanzee trekking is conducted by experienced guides who know the forest and the Chimpanzees well. The guides will take you off the beaten track, deep into the heart of the forest where you are likely to see Chimpanzees going about their daily lives. Chimpanzee trekking is a great way to learn more about these amazing creatures and to get up close and personal with some of Uganda’s wildlife. Expect to see other wildlife like monkeys, birds, and reptiles.

This 3 day safari will bring you into Kibale forest National Park, where you will have the opportunity to trek in search of chimpanzees in the morning and wamp walk in afternoon. Once the chimpanzees are located, you will be allowed to stay with them for a maximum of one hour. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these amazing creatures up close and personal, so don’t miss out!

Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kibale National Park

Leave Kampala for chimpanzee trekking experience in Kibale forest. Your driver will pick you up at the airport or hotel and transfer you to your lodge. As you drive through the countryside, you’ll be impressed by the wonderful scenery and quaint homes. Even better, all the time spent in your car is sure to give you a good opportunity to spot different species of birds. Be sure to bring your camera, as you’re sure to want to capture this amazing experience. You will arrive at your lodging for the night in the Crater lakes region. You will have a stopover for lunch in Fort Portal Town.

Day 2: Chimpanzees trekking in Kibale national park

Your driver/guide will transfer you to the briefing place after breakfast, where he will hand in your details and permits for registration and allocation of chimpanzee community to trek. You’ll then be assigned to an ape community and your ranger guide will lead you on the trek in search of this creature. Watch the chimpanzees in their natural habitat, as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above the forest floor, feed, play and rest.

In the afternoon, explore the Bigodi village. You have opportunity to visit a swamp with abundant butterflies, plants, animals and spectacular birds like Great Blue Turaco and will be of great interest to birders. After this experience, you will take a village walk that will lead you to the Coffee Experience, banana bear making, busked making and traditional healing.

Day 3: End of the Uganda chimpanzee trekking tour

We hope you enjoyed your time in Uganda’s countryside and watching the chimpanzees in their home. Your gosafariz driver will transfer you to Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home or your desired destination.
